Addison Schacht (Ansel Elgort) is 18 year old intelligent Jewish high school student in Washington D.C. One day a fellow classmate is murdered and all fingers get pointed towards the gangs of the area. Addison feels upset as police is not able to arrest the killers. He along with his girlfriend Phoebe (Chloë Grace Moretz), takes things into his own hands and decides to investigate the murder of his friend. He had made his reputation as a student who sell drugs to his classmates, insult teachers, friends and even the mother of his girlfriend in order to get closer to the gang members of the area.
